A drug makes them so fast that an ordinary walk becomes an experiment
Make a science-fiction power feel strange and usable by tracing what it changes about everyday perception and movement.
Show competence by following a useful power through the ordinary work needed to produce something reliable.
Taylor is preparing to act as a superhero without an official team's equipment supply. Buying a costume could expose her identity; making one takes time and resources.
Worm, basement preparation in Gestation 1.2.
She uses controlled spiders to weave material for a costume, manages feeding and breeding, and rotates spiders to maintain production. Her hope that the armor might be bulletproof is explicitly untested here.
Treating a hoped-for performance property as tested fact or granting unexplained manufacturing knowledge makes the system feel arbitrary. These are fictional capabilities, not verified biological advice.

Taylor's control helps organize the spiders, but material still requires feeding, breeding, time and a work schedule. The costume makes the ability useful through a process the reader can follow. Her hope that it will stop bullets is separate from what she has tested.
Choose something your character needs to make. Trace the inputs, the step their ability improves, and the ordinary bottleneck it leaves. Write a small test before anyone relies on the result. Use the result to change the plan, including a limitation the character must work around.
Use in my storyMake a science-fiction power feel strange and usable by tracing what it changes about everyday perception and movement.
Let a character keep their public reputation while private evidence makes it harder to ignore what they have done.
Reveal a hidden danger during a task the character would do anyway, then let the exposed person react to the discovery.
