Relationships · Pact

She can warn him from a mirror. He has to carry it.

Give uneasy allies practical reasons to stay together even while they doubt each other's account.

Use in my story

The situation

Blake can move through the physical world. Rose appears through mirrors, reports severe limits on where she can go, and has perceptions and information he lacks. Neither fully understands her situation.

Pact · Wildbow

Pact, highway and abandoned-car sequence in Bonds 1.2.

What the source describes

Rose warns that an encountered being remains close after Blake thinks they have passed it. His car then loses fuel and power. When he leaves, she asks him to bring a mirror; he detaches the rear-view mirror and carries it. Her account of her origins remains uncertain.

How the choices connect

  1. The two characters perceive the threat differently.
  2. Observable resource loss makes dismissing the warning harder.
  3. Escape requires a physical accommodation for the ally's limitations.

Watch for…

A companion who only explains lore becomes an exposition device. Do not turn Rose's provisional self-description into a confirmed account of her origin.

CUESHELF INTERPRETATION

How this moves the story

Blake can move through the physical world; Rose's access is different and incompletely understood. A portable mirror lets her warning affect what he can do next. Cooperation begins with a concrete workaround, without requiring either character to settle every question about the other's nature.

Try it in your story

Give each ally one useful action the other cannot perform. Put them in a situation requiring both. Write the object, signal or arrangement that connects their contributions, plus one thing each must trust the other to report honestly. Keep untested explanations provisional.
