Tomorrow’s lost property

A station clerk checking lost property finds a suitcase dated tomorrow. Inside is a missing-person poster for a passenger on today's platform. The clerk's job is to return the bag; approaching its apparent owner turns that routine duty into a request for secrecy.

01

Your protagonist

The clerk wants to establish whether the passenger owns the bag and is safe before the train leaves. The future poster supplies a reason to ask, not proof of time travel or a crime.

02

The obstacle

The passenger says the poster belongs to an escape plan and asks the clerk not to contact the person named on it. The clerk cannot yet verify who printed it.

03

The choice

The clerk can ask what independent help the passenger wants, verify the bag's arrival through station records, or call the poster's contact and risk exposing the departure. They must choose what to do before the platform clears.

Two ways to take it further

  • Keep the mystery grounded: someone printed tomorrow’s poster in advance to control the search.
  • Let the suitcase contain two posters that name different last-known locations.
