A love letter disguised as instructions

A person leaving for a week writes plant-care instructions for the partner who plans to move out before they return. Make the practical note quietly ask the partner to stay.

01

Start here

Begin with one real instruction about the plant, tied to a routine they used to share.

02

Try this constraint

Keep love, loneliness and “please stay” out of the note. Let the instructions reveal what the writer hopes will continue.

03

Keep writing

End with a task scheduled after the partner’s intended moving day.

Two ways to take it further

  • Write the partner’s reply as corrections in the margin. Let one correction accept or refuse the implied invitation.
  • Make the plant hardy and the care overly elaborate, but keep at least one instruction useful.
